Lightroom CC/6: "Failed to open localhost" error

First, check if the Palette Plugin and Extension are enable. The steps to do so are located here.

For older Palette V1 users, please ensure that you have "Palette Plugin (V2)" and not the older "Palette Plugin".

Still getting "Failed to open localhost" error?

Ensure that localhost connections are enabled on your operating system. To check or enable localhost on:

Mac:

1) Open the application called "Terminal"

2) Type in this command. You can copy directly from here, paste it into the terminal and then press enter:

sudo open /private/etc/hosts

This command will prompt you for a password.

3) Ensure that there is the following entry in the file.

127.0.0.1 localhost

If this entry does not exist in the file, add this entry on a separate line. If there is a "#" character in front of this line, remove the "#". Save any changes and close the file.

4) If you are unable to save or receive any errors, then you must run a different terminal command.

sudo nano /private/etc/hosts

Once you type in your password, you will want to paste the information provided in Step 3.

To save the changes, use the shortcut (Control + X), you will then be prompted to Save by typing the shortcut (Y). After this is complete you will be sent back to the terminal shell.

5) Close and relaunch any Adobe apps.

Windows:

1) Open a search bar with the Windows key and type Notepad

2) In the search results, right-click Notepad and select Run as administrator. Click Yes if an User Account Control window opens.

3) Go to the File menu and click Open...

4) Type the following location, or copy directly from here, into the file name:

c:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc\hosts

5) Ensure that there is the following entry in the file.

127.0.0.1 localhost

If this entry does not exist in the file, add this entry on a separate line. If there is a "#" character in front of this line, remove the "#". Save any changes and close the file.

6) Close and relaunch any Adobe apps.
